The NAS Whidbey Flt Line picture is circa early 1960's (inflight refueling
probes) or perhaps even late 1950's. Gene didn't know exact date. That is
Heavy 2 returning from deployment with 12 aircraft in a row, amazing they
had that many up at one time. Taxing past Heavy 4 and VAH-123 Flt Lines.
Get a grip on all those 40's & 50's autos in the parking lot.

The USS Kitty Hawk picture is from a 1962 Shakedown Cruisein the Carribean
with 12 of VAH-13 A-3's onboard, both Gene Poole and Don Grove where onboard
at the time. Picture taken from one A-3, one just shot off Cat 1, five more
on deck and supposedly five more in the hangar bays. I can not verify the
validity of Gene and Don's story, but it does certainly make a good one.

10 July 2010 UPDATE: The total group donation by VAQ-133 is now at $5,250.00!
Well done!!

Hello Shipmates:
Final checks for all the pledges for the Whidbey Whale project will be arriving this week and I will be submitting our squadrons contribution to this worthwhile effort by next week.
There were 11 members who pledged funds and the total amount we will be contributing will be $3,000, a very significant amount towards their over all goal of $100,000 dollars.
The donation will be made in the name of Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (VAQ)-133. Every person who contributed gave at least $125, or the amount necessary to become a charter member. Each of you will be receiving a hat, charter membership recognition, a tax deductible donation receipt and other items from the organization.

Thank you again for your generous and spontaneous response to this impromptu idea to have our squadron memorialized on this impressive display of a flying whale right in front of the main gate at Whidbey.

All of us have good memories of Whales and Whidbey.
They just go together, its nice to now have one planted at the gate for all to see and reminisce.

Best to all,
Ennis Gibbs
